SPEAKER FOR 13 FEBRUARY 2025
TALKIN PROPER
Graham Sellors with Pete Chivers
The title of the talk is “Talkin` Proper” In it I look at aspects of spoken language; at dialect, the language particular to certain regions, at accent, the way this language is pronounced and at how these two features can influence humour and anecdote. It is a personal take on the subject and I concentrate on areas where I`ve lived; Derbyshire, The North East and The West Midlands.
I spent 25 years working for ITV, as a writer and producer of educational television programmes. I subsequently tutored on script writing courses.
More recently I have written community plays for Wirksworth where I now live.
Pete Chivers also had a career in education and is, himself, a sought after speaker, particularly on aspects of local history . On this occasion, though, he is very kindly helping with the technical part of the presentation.
